The most searched questions, each on its own page

Each one answers at its own URL, to share or to read in full.

  • Is Kesef free?

Yes. Downloading and using Kesef is free, on iPhone and Android, with no cap on logging transactions, using groups, recurring expenses and sync. The free version is supported by ads. Kesef Pro is optional and costs USD 5 per month, USD 35 per year with a 14-day trial, or USD 100 for life.

  • What does Kesef Pro include?

Kesef Pro makes your Mercado Pago and Apple Pay payments log themselves, lifts the limit on voice logging and Chat, removes the ads, lifts the caps on tags, budgets and goals, and adds detailed insights, group statistics, export of your full history and to Excel, and several users on the same phone. It costs USD 5 per month, 35 per year or 100 for life.

  • How does the Mercado Pago integration work?

You connect your account from More › Integrations; the authorisation happens on Mercado Pago's page and your password never goes through Kesef. From then on, every QR payment, purchase and transfer shows up in Kesef 10 to 30 minutes later, with the category suggested by the merchant. It's read-only: Kesef can't pay or move money.

  • Can Kesef see my card or pay with it?

No. With Apple Pay, Kesef only learns the amount and the merchant of each payment: it never sees the card number and can't pay with it. With Mercado Pago, the authorisation is read-only: it can read your transactions, but not pay, transfer or touch your balance. You can turn either one off whenever you want.

  • Do I need an account to use Kesef?

No. You open Kesef and start using it, with no email and no password: your expenses stay on your phone. The account is optional and does one thing: sync across devices and join groups. You create it with Apple or Google when you need it, not before.

  • Does Kesef work offline?

Yes. You can log expenses with no signal and Kesef syncs them on its own once you're back online. Nothing gets lost because you were on the subway or travelling: transactions are saved on the phone and, if you have an account, they upload when there's internet.

  • Which countries does Kesef work in?

Kesef can be downloaded and used in any country in the world: it's translated into 50+ languages and handles 150+ currencies. What depends on the country is the Mercado Pago integration, available in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay. Apple Pay works in any country, on iPhones running iOS 17 or later.

  • Can I make my month start on payday?

Yes. Tap the month on Home or go to Profile → Month start and pick the day, 1 to 31. From then on your months run from payday to payday: Budgets, Insights, reminders and widgets follow that period. Your transactions don't change, only how they're grouped, and going back to day 1 leaves everything as it was. It's free.

  • Does Kesef tell me how much I can spend per day?

Yes. In Budgets, the summary tells you whether you're on track, spending fast or over, and how much you can spend per day until the period closes: "About $13.50 a day until the 31st". Each category shows the same and, if you're going fast, the day it runs out at that pace. It's free, with up to 3 budgets; unlimited with Pro.

  • Where is my data stored?

On your phone. If you sign in, a copy also lives on Kesef's server so you can use several devices, and there only your account can read it. If you never sign in, your transactions never leave the phone: only what you send when you use voice logging or the Chat travels. The data isn't sold.

Import

How can I import my data from another app?

You can import an XLSX (Excel) file to bring your information over. First export your data from the other app, then go to Settings -> Import data, select the file and you're done. You have all your information in Kesef!

They help you understand your spending: comparing periods, showing peak spending days, and projecting your month-end balance.

How are insights organized?

We group insights by Week, Month, and Year to help you find relevant info faster. You can also collapse each section.

What is the difference between free and Pro Insights?

Free insights show you a basic summary. With Pro, you get detailed analysis, end-of-month projections, spending pattern detection, and personalized saving suggestions.

What is Kesef's Chat?

A tab where you ask about your money in plain language: “how much did I spend on food last month?”, “did I spend more than last month?”, “where did I spend most?”. The maths happen on your phone with your own transactions: individual transactions aren't sent anywhere and nothing is made up. It only answers questions; it doesn't create transactions. Free gives you 3 questions a month; Pro removes the limit.

Currency

How do I change my default currency?

Go to Profile → Display currency.

Why do converted amounts differ?

We use the official DolarApp exchange rate to automatically convert between currencies.

Can I use multiple currencies?

Yes, you can set a specific currency for each transaction. The app will convert it to your display currency for totals.

Difference between Display and Transaction currency?

Display Currency shows your totals. Transaction Currency is the default used when creating new expenses.

Categories

How do I create custom categories?

Go to More → Categories → Add category.

What if I'm missing an icon?

You can choose from a wide range of emojis when creating or editing a category.

Budgets

How do I set a monthly budget?

Does Kesef tell me how much I can spend per day?

Yes.

Can I set savings goals?

Yes, in Budgets → Goals. Set an amount and, if you like, a date; each time you put money aside you log it as a contribution (you can withdraw too) and Kesef tells you whether you'll make it: what's left, your pace, and how much per month it would take. Money you set aside doesn't count towards your monthly spending. Free gives you 2 active goals at a time (completed ones don't count); Pro removes the cap.

Settings

What does 'Show income' do?

It toggles the visibility of income in your balance and charts. Useful if you want to focus only on expenses.

Can I make my month start on payday?

Yes.

Are there widgets?

Yes, on iPhone. From More → Widgets you'll see how to add them to your home and lock screens: Monthly spend, Quick actions, Budgets, Income and expenses, Budgets by category and Categories. They refresh every time you use Kesef and they're free. There are no widgets on Android yet.

How do I change the theme?

Go to Profile → Theme to choose between Light, Dark, or System mode.

Can my balance carry over instead of resetting each month?

Yes. Profile → Carry balance over. Off (the default) the balance is that month's income minus expenses. On, it works like an account balance: end the month with 10,000 and the next one starts at 10,000. Your income and expense totals stay per-month either way.

How do I know there's a new version?

Kesef checks on its own and tells you when one is ready, already downloaded. You choose when to restart — it never interrupts you mid-expense.

What can I configure in Settings?

You can change the Theme (Light/Dark), Currency, Language, configure Notifications, and manage your Backups.

Notifications

What are notifications for?

They are daily reminders so you don't forget to log your expenses. You can configure them in Settings.

Does Kesef remind me when an instalment is due?

Yes. The day before an instalment or a recurring payment is due, at 10 in the morning, you get a reminder: “Netflix is due tomorrow · $15 · Instalment 3 of 12”. If several are due that day, a single reminder lists them all. Turn it on in Profile → Notifications → Payment reminders; it's free.

Tips

Any tips for using the app?

1. Log expenses instantly. 2. Use emojis to spot categories quickly. 3. Check your Insights weekly to stay on track.

Shared groups

What is the shared pot in a group?

A different way to run a group, made for trips: instead of everyone paying and splitting, everyone puts money into a pot and expenses come out of it. Kesef tells you what's left in the pot and who put in more or less, and to settle up everyone squares with the pot. There's a third option, Everything shared, for a couple with their money together: no debts, just where it goes. Putting money in or taking it out of the pot doesn't show up in your transactions: only your share of each expense reaches your own finances. You pick it in the group's settings, and it's free.

How do I split expenses with other people?

Create a group from the Groups tab, add the people in it, and log the shared expenses. Kesef works out who owes whom and settles the debts down to the fewest possible transfers.

How do I invite someone?

From the group, tap Invite. You get a link and a code: the link opens the app straight into the group, and the code works if they'd rather type it in. Being in a group is free for everyone.

Can I add someone who doesn't have Kesef yet?

Yes. Add them by name and log their expenses right away. When they join with the code they claim that spot and inherit their whole history — nothing gets logged twice.

What can the other members see?

Only what belongs to the group: its expenses, its splits and its settlements. Your own transactions, categories, budgets and balance are never visible to anyone else.

Security

Can I lock Kesef with Face ID?

Yes. Profile → Lock with Face ID. It asks when you open Kesef and when you come back after a minute away, so stepping out to another app mid-expense doesn't cost you an extra unlock.

Where is my data stored?

On your phone.

How do I delete my account?

Profile → Your account → Delete my account. It erases the server-side copy and everything attached to it. It can't be undone, so export a backup first if you want to keep your history.

Backup & Privacy

How do I back up my data?

Your data is stored locally. Go to Profile → Local backup to save a backup file to Files/iCloud Drive, or Profile → Export data to take it with you as JSON or CSV. Kesef also makes a backup on its own once a day when you open it, and keeps the last seven.

How do I sync data between devices?

Create an account from Settings and sign in on both devices. From then on your transactions, categories and budgets travel on their own. Without an account Kesef works exactly the same, just on one phone.

What happens to my data when I use the app?

We use it to run the app, to understand how it's used and to tell you what's new. We don't sell it. If you sign in, it's stored on our server under your account and no one else can read it, except what you share in a group. Voice entry sends the audio, your category and payment method names and, if you're in groups, those groups' and members' names; the Chat sends your question with an aggregated summary of your numbers. The details are in the privacy policy.

Can I export to Excel?

Yes, with Pro: Profile → Export data → Excel. You get three sheets — every transaction, a per-category summary and a per-month summary — with real numbers and dates, ready for pivot tables. Exporting the last 30 days to CSV or JSON is free; the other periods (90 days, last year, your full history or a custom range) and Excel are part of Pro. Local backup stays free.

How do I reset my account balance?

You can reset all data in Profile → Reset data. This action cannot be undone.

Pro & Ads

How can Kesef be free?

The free version is supported by ads.
