Charts answer the questions someone else thought of for you. Kesef's Chat answers yours: type "how much did I spend on food last month?" or "did I spend more than last month?" and it answers from your own transactions, in one sentence. If you want to keep going, it suggests the next question: "And before?", "Up or down?", "Biggest category".
What you can ask
- How much you spent or how much came in, for a period or a category: "How much did I spend this month?", "How much did I earn this year?".
- Where your money goes: "What did I spend the most on?".
- Comparisons: "Did I spend more than last month?", and the answer says how much more or less.
- How you're doing: "How am I doing this month?", with your balance for the period.
- The transactions behind the answer: how many there are and which ones.
- How to save: it looks at your month and points out where most of your money goes.
- How to use the app: it answers with the text from Kesef's help.
Open it from More → Ask Kesef, or from an Insights card to ask about that observation. If the question has nothing to do with your money, it tells you: "I can't answer that one yet".
It answers; it doesn't log or edit
The Chat reads, it doesn't write: it doesn't create, edit or delete transactions. To log an expense by speaking there's voice logging, which is a separate feature. Nor does it give opinions on investments or know anything that isn't in your data: it answers about what you've logged.
Where the numbers come from, and what leaves your phone
The numbers come from your transactions and are calculated on your phone. To write the answer, Kesef uses a language model (from Groq), and along with your question it sends that model an aggregated summary: totals by month and by category for the last six months, your category names, the merchants where you spend the most and what Insights already shows you.
What's never sent: an individual transaction, a note, or anything about other members of a group. A category total describes a habit; a transaction with its note describes something in your life, and answering doesn't need it.

Free gives you 3 questions a month, renewed the following month. Only the ones that need the model count: some answers come straight from your Insights or are worked out on the phone, and those aren't deducted. With Kesef Pro, the Chat has no limit.

Can Kesef's Chat log expenses?
No. The Chat only answers questions about your numbers; it doesn't create, edit or delete transactions. To log by speaking there's voice logging.
