Kesef or Fintonic: reading your bank, or tracking all your spending

Fintonic reads your accounts at banks in Spain and doesn't let you log cash. Kesef logs it all, with Mercado Pago, instalments and groups. With sources.

Fintonic and Kesef both show you where your money goes, but they start from different places. Fintonic connects your bank accounts in Spain and builds your spending from what went through the bank; it also calculates a financial score and compares loans. Kesef doesn't connect to banks: it logs what you pay in cash, by transfer, by card or with Mercado Pago, in any country. The detail is below, with what Fintonic says on its site and help centre, and where it's better.

The short answer

If you live in Spain, your accounts are at banks on its list and you want to see your transactions without logging anything, Fintonic does that. It also gives you a free financial score and compares loans.

If you pay in cash, by transfer or with Mercado Pago, buy in instalments or share expenses, Kesef handles that. Fintonic's help centre says it only shows transactions that went through a bank account.

"No data" means Fintonic's site and help centre don't say, not that it lacks the feature. If you're outside Spain, check its site for your country to see which banks it connects to.

The real difference: what goes through the bank, or everything you spend

Fintonic builds your spending from what goes through your bank accounts. It's convenient, since there's nothing to log, but it leaves out whatever doesn't go through the bank: its help centre says cash transactions can't be added.

Kesef starts from the other end: it doesn't connect to banks, and it records what you log plus what comes in on its own from Mercado Pago or Apple Pay, with Kesef Pro. In Argentina, where a large share of payments come from Mercado Pago, cash or transfers, that's what makes the month complete.

And Fintonic has another business at its core: the financial score (FinScore) and loan comparison. Kesef doesn't offer loans or calculate a score: it's an app for tracking your expenses and shared ones.

Where Fintonic is better

  • If your accounts are at banks on its list, your transactions arrive on their own from the bank, with nothing to log. Kesef doesn't connect to banks.
  • It gives you a free financial score, updated every month, with tips to improve it.
  • It compares loans from 40+ lenders, at no cost, according to its site.
  • It's authorised by the Bank of Spain to access your accounts.

If you live in Spain, pay for almost everything with your bank card and don't share expenses, Fintonic shows you your spending without you doing anything.

Choose Kesef if…

  • You live outside Spain, or your banks aren't on Fintonic's list.

  • You buy in instalments and want to see each one in the month it falls.
  • You share expenses with your partner, flatmates or on a trip.
  • You handle pesos and dollars in the same month.

Choose Fintonic if…

  • You live in Spain and your accounts are at banks on its list.
  • You want to see your transactions without logging anything by hand.
  • You care about your financial score or you're looking for a loan.

Frequently asked questions

Does Fintonic work in Argentina?

Its site is Spain's, with versions for Mexico and Chile, and the bank list in its help centre is for Spain. We didn't find a version for Argentina on its site, so we don't state it. Kesef works in any country, and the Mercado Pago integration is available in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.

Can I log cash expenses in Fintonic?

Its help centre says no: Fintonic only shows transactions that went through a bank account. In Kesef, cash expenses are logged by hand, by voice or with a photo of the receipt.

Does Fintonic connect to Mercado Pago?

Mercado Pago isn't on the list of institutions Fintonic can connect to, which is made up of banks in Spain. Kesef logs Mercado Pago payments on its own with Kesef Pro, by linking the account: it can't pay, transfer or move your money.

Its site says FinScore is free and that loan comparison costs nothing; it doesn't publish paid plans for the app. In Kesef, logging, groups, instalments and recurring expenses are free, with ads, and Kesef Pro costs USD 5 per month, USD 35 per year or USD 100 for life.

Does Kesef connect to the bank like Fintonic?

No. Kesef doesn't connect to banks: its automatic inputs are Mercado Pago and Apple Pay, with Kesef Pro. You can upload your card statement yourself, as a PDF with Kesef Pro or as a screenshot, which uses one of the 3 free image uploads.
