Paying with your iPhone is already just a tap. Logging the expense, though, still means opening an app, picking a category and typing the amount. That's why people stop doing it after a week. With the Apple Pay automation, the expense lands in Kesef on its own, the moment you pay. It works in any country and it's part of Kesef Pro.
Tap your iPhone and the expense is already logged
You pay with Apple Pay in a shop, as always, with any card you have in Wallet. As soon as your bank confirms the payment, you get a Kesef notification with the amount and the merchant, and the expense is logged. You didn't open anything.
The category is suggested by the merchant and learns from your fixes: sort a purchase once and the next ones at the same place land right on their own. And since it comes in as a regular expense, if it was a shared one you move it into a group.
How to turn it on
You need an iPhone with iOS 17 or later and Apple Pay set up in Wallet. You do it once from More › Integrations › Apple Pay, and the app walks you through it:
- Add Kesef's shortcut. It comes ready-made: the Shortcuts app opens and you add it with one tap.
- Create the automation. Pick Wallet as the trigger, keep the cards you use checked and set it to run on its own, without asking.
- Choose Kesef's shortcut as the action for that automation. Done.
Apple doesn't let any app set this up on its own. It's a security measure, which is why it's done in Shortcuts. It takes a minute and stays set up for good.
If your bank doesn't report the amount
Some banks don't pass the amount to Wallet. When that happens the payment isn't lost: it stays pending, with the merchant and the date, and you complete it with one tap. If your bank takes a while to confirm, Kesef still lets you know so you can finish it.
What Kesef sees, and what it doesn't
Kesef learns the amount and the merchant of each payment, and nothing else. It doesn't see your card number and it can't pay with it.
Any card in Wallet, from any bank, in any country.
And for what you don't pay with Apple Pay
The automation covers the payments you make by tapping your iPhone in a shop. For everything else (cash, transfers, online purchases or the physical card), Kesef has quick ways to log it:
- By voice: say everything from the day in one go and Kesef splits each expense out with its category.
- With a double tap on the back of your iPhone, the Action button or Siri: Kesef asks for the expense and it's logged without opening the app.
- By hand, in seconds: type the amount and the category, currency and payment method are already filled in.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Apple Pay automation free?
It's part of Kesef Pro, which costs USD 5 per month or USD 35 per year, with a 14-day free trial on the yearly plan, or USD 100 as a one-time lifetime purchase. The rest of Kesef is free and uncapped: logging by hand, groups, recurring expenses and 150+ currencies.
What do I need to use it?
An iPhone with iOS 17 or later and Apple Pay set up in Wallet. It works with any card in Wallet, from any bank, in any country.
Do I have to open Kesef every time I pay?
No. Once it's set up, the automation runs on its own: you pay with Apple Pay and the expense lands in Kesef with a notification, without opening the app.
Can Kesef see my card or pay with it?
No. Kesef only learns the amount and the merchant of each payment. It doesn't see the card number and it can't pay with it.
Why does it have to be set up in the Shortcuts app?
Because Apple doesn't let any app create a Wallet automation on its own. It's a security measure. You do it once, with Kesef's step-by-step guide, and it stays set up for good.
What if my bank doesn't report the amount?
The payment stays pending, with the merchant and the date, and you complete it with one tap. It isn't lost.
Does it work for online purchases?
The automation covers the payments you make with Apple Pay by tapping your iPhone in a shop. For online purchases, cash or transfers, you log the expense by voice, with a double tap on the back of your iPhone or by hand in seconds.
Does it work on Android?
No. Apple Pay is iPhone-only. On Android, if you're in one of the seven Mercado Pago countries, you can connect your account so your payments come in on their own, and you can always log expenses by voice or by hand.
