**In short:** Yes. In Kesef you tap «+» and choose Take photo or Upload file, or share the image from another app. Kesef reads the total, the date, the merchant and the currency, suggests the category and the payment method, and shows you the transaction to review before saving. You get 3 free image uploads in total (photo, screenshot or statement image); after that it's part of Kesef Pro.

The supermarket receipt ends up at the bottom of your bag and the transfer confirmation gets lost among your screenshots. Typing them in at night is exactly the step people skip. Since version 2.6.0, Kesef reads them: you take a photo or pick the screenshot, and the expense shows up ready for you to confirm.

## One photo, one expense ready to review

Tap «+» and choose Take photo or Upload file. It can be a shop receipt, an invoice, a transfer confirmation, a purchase confirmation screen or the email with the receipt. Kesef reads the amount you paid, the date, the merchant and the currency, and picks the category and payment method from your own.

A receipt with many items is a single expense: the total you paid. Kesef doesn't split it item by item, because what matters for your month is how much it cost and which category it falls into. Subtotals, tax lines, the cash you handed over and the change aren't taken as the amount.

## A screenshot with many transactions

It also reads lists: a screenshot of your bank's activity, your wallet's or Mercado Pago's. It builds one transaction per row that moved money, expense or income, and leaves out balances and totals. You can pick up to 5 images at once, and if two show the same payment, like the confirmation screen and the email, it's added only once.

- Declined or cancelled payments aren't added, and it tells you which ones were left out.
- Neither are card bill payments or transfers between your own accounts: the expenses were the purchases, not the payment.
- If a transaction looks like it's already logged (same amount and currency, no more than 3 days apart), it warns «Looks like it's already added». It doesn't delete anything: you decide, because two coffees at the same price in the same week are two expenses.

## From any app, with the share menu

If the receipt is in another app, you don't need to save it first: share it, pick Kesef and the reading starts. It works with images and PDFs, on iPhone and Android. On iPhone, Upload file asks whether to look in Photos or in Files.

## You always review before saving

What Kesef read shows up as a list of transactions you can correct: the amount, the date, the category or the payment method, or delete the one that doesn't belong. With Payment method for all you set the same one on every transaction at once. If something is uncertain, like an amount that was hard to read, that transaction's card flags it. Nothing is saved until you tap Save.

If the image can't be read, it tells you instead of making up an expense: «We couldn't read the image. Try a sharper photo, with the total visible and good lighting». And if it isn't a receipt, «We didn't find an expense in the image».

The currency is the one printed: US$, €, R$ or whatever code it shows. A bare «$» is taken as your account currency, and an expense in another currency is converted like any other.

## What gets sent and what doesn't

Reading an image needs an artificial intelligence model running on a server, not on the phone, so it needs a connection. What travels is the image, which the app shrinks and converts to JPEG before uploading it, the names of your categories and payment methods, and your first name if you entered it, which helps tell whether you sent or received a transfer.

Your transaction history, balances and email don't travel. The expense you save is stored like any other, with no photo attached, and the copies left on the phone are deleted when you're done.

> You get 3 free image uploads, in total and not per month: a receipt photo, a screenshot or a statement image all count the same. Each upload can bring several transactions and only counts when you save. After that, photo entry is part of Kesef Pro. Reading a PDF is Pro only.

## For your card statement

A photo or screenshot of your statement is read like any other list. For the whole month, the PDF your bank lets you download works better: Kesef reads the full document, skips the statement payment and, for each purchase in instalments, adds the remaining ones too.

- [Import your card statement and log the whole month at once](https://getkesef.app/en/features/import-card-statement): Importing your card statement, with the remaining instalments.
- [Log the whole day's expenses by talking, in one go](https://getkesef.app/en/features/voice-expense-tracking): Voice logging, for whatever has no receipt.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is logging expenses with a photo free?

You get 3 free image uploads, in total and not per month (a receipt photo, a screenshot or a statement image), with their own allowance that isn't shared with voice. Each upload can bring several transactions and only counts when you save. After that, photo entry is part of Kesef Pro, which costs USD 5 per month, USD 35 per year with a 14-day trial, or USD 100 for life.

### What does it read from a receipt?

The total you paid, the date, the merchant and the currency. With that it suggests the category and the payment method from your own. It doesn't split out the items: a receipt is one expense for the total.

### Does it work with bank or Mercado Pago screenshots?

Yes. A screenshot of your bank's activity, a wallet's or Mercado Pago's is read as a list: one transaction per row that moved money, without balances or totals. You can upload up to 5 images at once.

### Does it work offline?

No. The image is read on a server by an artificial intelligence model, so it needs a connection. Logging by hand does work with no signal.

### Does Kesef keep the photo of the receipt?

No. The expense is saved without the image attached, and the copies left on the phone when you take the photo or pick the file are deleted when you're done.

### What if the expense was already logged?

If it finds one with the same amount and currency no more than 3 days apart, it warns «Looks like it's already added» on that card. It doesn't delete anything on its own: you remove it if it's the same one.

### Does it read receipts in another currency?

Yes. It takes the currency printed on it (US$, €, R$ or whatever code it shows) and the expense is converted like any other in a foreign currency. A bare «$» is taken as your account currency.
