# Category budgets that tell you how much you can spend per day

> Set a cap per category and Kesef tells you whether you're on track or going fast, how much you can spend per day, and alerts you at 80% and 100%. 3 free.

A budget you look at at the end of the month is no use: by then the money's gone. In Kesef you set a cap per category (groceries, going out, delivery) and, as the month goes by, the app tells you whether you're on track or going fast, how much you have left per day until the close and, at this pace, which day it runs out. When a category reaches 80% and 100%, it lets you know.

## A cap per category, which repeats on its own

Budgets are per category: pick one, enter the amount, done. You create it from Budgets or from the category itself, with the Budget switch. If you've already logged expenses, Kesef suggests a number based on what you usually spend ("You usually spend $480 a month here") and offers to set that cap in one tap.

The amount repeats in the following months, so you don't enter it again every month; if you change it, the change applies from that month on. At the top, the summary adds up the budgets of all your categories and tells you how much of that total you've spent.

## On track, spending fast or over budget

Each budget has a status. On track: at this pace you reach the close with money left. Spending fast: you're spending faster than the month is moving, and the category tells you which day it runs out if you keep going ("At this pace it runs out on the 24th"). Over budget: you've passed the cap, and it says by how much.

While the period is running and you're not over, each category shows what's left and how much that is per day: "$140 left · $10 a day". The summary says the same for the total: "About $48 a day until the 31st". The maths is what's left divided by the days remaining, and it's redone every time you log an expense.

> The "per day" figure only counts categories that have a budget. With the 3 on the free plan, it's the per-day amount for those 3, not for everything you spend.

## Alerts at 80% and 100%

When you log or edit an expense that takes a category to 80% of its budget, you get an alert: "You're close to your budget". If it goes past 100%, another: "You exceeded a budget". There's nothing to set up; notifications just need to be allowed.

## Month by month, and what you'll save

Budgets also looks back: "Month by month" shows the last 6 months, how many you closed within the total and your streak ("3 months in a row within your total"). And the This month's savings card does the maths forward: if you stick to your budgets, how much you'll close the month with. From there you can set it aside for a savings goal.

## They follow your month, not the calendar

If you're paid on the 23rd, a budget that starts on the 1st mixes two paychecks. With the month starting on payday, budgets, the per-day amount and the alerts follow that period.

## Free and Pro

Free gives you up to 3 budgets; with Kesef Pro, as many as you want. Statuses, the per-day amount, alerts and history are the same on both plans.

## Frequently asked questions

### How many budgets can I have for free?

Up to 3. With Kesef Pro there's no cap. Everything else (statuses, per-day amount, alerts and history) is the same on both plans.

### Does what I don't spend roll over to next month?

No. The budget amount repeats every month, but what's left over isn't added to the next one: each period starts with its own cap. If you want to keep that difference, the This month's savings card offers to set it aside for a goal.

### Can I set one total budget for the whole month?

Not as a separate budget: budgets are per category. The summary at the top adds them all up and tells you how much of that total you've spent and how much you can spend per day.

### When does Kesef alert me?

When you log or edit an expense that takes a category to 80% of its budget, and again when it passes 100%. Notifications need to be allowed.

### Do budgets follow my payday?

Yes. If you chose to start your month on payday, budgets, the per-day amount and the alerts run from payday to payday.
